Day 12 - Pineapple Brown Sugar Glazed Ham

Welcome to Day 12 of 25 Days of Recipes!  I've got another great recipe to share w/ you!  This one just so happens to be for the main course Christmas dinner!  You've probably all been waiting for this one, if you're hosting Christmas Dinner, that is.  Last year was my first Christmas to host, huge deal for me (a lot easier than Thanksgiving though).  It was our first Christmas alone, w/ just our small family.  We have always spent it w/ either my family or my in-laws.  Last Christmas, it just didn't work out that we could go anywhere :(  I totally dreaded being alone, I was so sad!  But, you know what?  Christmas morning came, my boys were so excited, and it was just so fun watching the boys open their gifts!  It didn't hurt one bit that my husband spoiled me either ;) We took our time opening gifts, and let the boys play with each individual gift they opened, that way Christmas morning lasted for hours.  It turned out to be such a good day!  And, it was so great that my hubby's brother and family were able to come for dinner, so our day wasn't spent completely alone.

Just for fun...here are the pictures I put on our Christmas card last year.  Aren't they good lookin' boys!!  They've grown so much since these pictures were taken!

So, what's the story on the ham?  Well when I found out I had to cook my first ham, I called my mom up a little freaked out.  She gave me her own special recipe, the one she makes all the time, and it turned out to be so simple!  It tasted great too!  I don't know if it sounds weird to you to have pineapples on your ham or not, but...trust me...it's great!  Try it!  You can thank my mom later ;)

Take out and uncover...

Mix and heat together brown sugar and pineapples until caramelized.  Pour over and baste Ham every 10 minutes.

All done!  Slice and serve.

Pineapple Brown Sugar Glazed Ham

Ingredients

10 lb Bone-in Ham (whatever's on sale)
Ground Cloves
1 c Water
15 oz can Whole Sliced Pineapples
1 c Brown Sugar

Preheat oven to 325. Cut slits on the top of the ham, going in both directions, to form about 1/2 inch deep squares.  Sprinkle ground cloves all over the ham.  Pour about 1 cup of water on the bottom of a roasting pan and then place ham on the arched rack.  Cover and bake for about 2.5 hours. (15-18 minutes per lb, until the internal temperature reaches 135 degrees.)  The last 30 minutes of baking, heat brown sugar and pineapples until caramelized and heated through, either on stove top or microwave.  Slowly pour pineapples/brown sugar mixture on top of the ham and cook uncovered for the remaining time, basting every 10 minutes.  Let cool 15-20 minutes, slice then serve.  Enjoy!!
