Open Faced Philly Cheese

I finally have another recipe to add!  Actually I have lots of recipes I need to add, I just haven't felt very well, and looking at pictures of food made me feel nauseous (no not pregnant related!).  And, I've just been so busy!  Anyways, this recipe was given to me by my sister, Bonny, who also gave me my first recipe posted on this blog (do you remember?).  I've been making this for a while now.  I love this recipe, not only because it tastes great, but because it's such an easy and quick recipe!  My favorite sides to serve w/ this are pasta salad and chips or french fries.  The left overs are wonderful too!  My husband loves to wrap them up in aluminum foil and take them to work for lunch.  They seriously taste just as good the next day.  I rate this a 4.

All the ingredients needed.  Kraft is the only brand I have been able to find Creamy Italian in, so far.


Most of the time I go ahead and cook the vegetables and meat together, instead of 1st veggies then add meat.  After softened and browned, mix in the Creamy Italian Dressing.

Cut the bread lengthwise and spread dressing.

Top w/ meat mixture.

Instead of broiling just the bread and meat then adding cheese to broil yet again, sometimes I put the cheese on right away and broil.  It works nicely. 

Cut in slices (if you didn't at the beginning).

And serve open faced!!  Yum!

Open Faced Philly Cheese


Ingredients:

1 lb Ground Beef
1 Green Bell Pepper
1/2 Red Bell Pepper
1 Onion
1/2 c. Creamy Italian Dressing
1 Loaf French Bread
7-8 Slices of Provolone Cheese

1. Cut peppers and onion into thin slices.  Fry veggies, add meat, brown and drain.  Mix 1/4 c. dressing into meat mixture. 
2. Cut french bread lengthwise and into slices (or you can wait to cut until the end).  Spread the remainder of dressing on the bread.  Top with the meat mixture.
3. Broil 4-6 minutes (watch closely so it doesn't burn, it will continue to brown after you add the cheese and broil!!).  Add Provolone cheese and broil until melted.  Serve open faced!!  Enjoy!

Hey Brittany, thanks for your blog! I just made these for the kids for Saturday lunch and they loved it! Especially my boys. This is keeper. I did have to change a couple of things: can't get creamy Italian here so I used Berstein's Creamy Ceasar, and added lots of freshly ground pepper to the ground beef when it was cooking, also had to use a different type of cheese. Oh, one more thing, I don't know how to use the broiler on my over (don't cook often enough) so I had to bake them...turned out great even with those minor changes.

If I don't have creamy italian on hand, I mix ranch and italian together, it works out great!
